Freehand 2010 appoints new chairman

Medical Company Restructures

Freehand 2010 has announced the appointment of Alistair Taylor as corporate chairman as it continues its transformation into a global sales-driven business.

Mr Taylor joins the medical robotics company - which was created last year to acquire the assets of Prosurgics and Freehand Surgical - having been employed in key leadership roles at a number of healthcare-focused organisations.

He was a founder of Biocompatibles International, a former FTSE 250 company which has since sold assets to Abbott and CooperVision, while he has also acted as chief executive officer at Schneider Worldwide, now owned by Boston Scientific.

His experience in the pharmaceutical and medical technology markets and expertise in fostering corporate growth will be instrumental in helping Freehand 2010 to further capitalise on the expanding laparoscopic surgery market.

Mr Taylor's appointment comes after Rosemary Cunningham-Thomas was named as chief executive officer earlier this year.

She said: "We are delighted that Alistair Taylor will be joining us here at Freehand. It was essential we appointed a person of Alistair's experience and calibre at this strategically vital stage for the company."
