Siemens announces cancer screening installation

Medical Company Product News

Siemens Healthcare has confirmed that InHealth Molecular Imaging Solutions has installed the first of four of Siemens' Biograph 6 TruePoint PET/CT systems for use in its mobile vehicles.

The agreement for the cancer screening system is part of a Department of Health commitment to deliver its PET/CT NHS Diagnostic Imaging Service.

It is hoped that the new mobile service will deliver screening provision closer to the community, with travelling time cut for those patients undergoing treatment.

Thirteen locations across five Strategic Health Authorities are to have regular visits from the InHealth mobile PET/CT vehicles with the images taken inside the mobile facility directly sent to hospitals to be read by local radiologists.

Lawrence Foulsham, product manager for molecular imaging and oncology at Siemens, illustrated that the Biograph TruePoint PET/CT offered "higher speed acquisitions" that both improved patient comfort and accelerated patient throughput.

"This makes it an ideal solution for a mobile screening services looking to maximise the number of patients it can see in an area, whilst also managing the stress levels of patients," he added.

Earlier this month, Siemens Healthcare confirmed that it was to go ahead with the acquisition of the German surgical navigation systems company CAS innovations.
