TERRITORY: Northern England

PRODUCTS: MECHATRONICS Balances, centrifuges, moisture analysers, bench mounted scales and floor platforms.

CLIENTS: Pharmaceutical, Chemical, Food, University and Hospital laboratories. A new focus to expand into will be production and industrial.

ROLE: Currently the business on the area is 90% laboratory (balances and centrifuges) and 10% scales. 10% is about £50k and the candidate must convince me that he/she will be able to move us closer to £100k without sacrificing the lab business we currently have.

In order to be able to do this job the candidate must have a successful track record in selling bespoke solutions rather than simply off the shelf product. However, because the area is supported currently by it's lab business, they must but be prepared to sell standard lab product too. Most of our customer enquiries are currently for laboratory products. I would anticipate the time split will need to be 60% laboratory visits and 40% factory/production/pilot plant visits based on at least 60 face to face calls per month.

Our products are expensive compared to much of the competition, but are high specification. Much of our selling is carried out by demonstration, to show the added value, so the candidate must be prepared, and be able, to transport items perhaps up to 20kg (usually less!) from a car to a point of use.

The target will be around the £480k mark in 2010 but I will need that to rise by at least 10% in 2011. In 2009 it managed £500k so it's a good area for us.
