Previous job - Technical Sales Consultant

TERRITORY: Scotland (ideal location within one hour from Glasgow / Edinburgh)

PRODUCTS: Balances, centrifuges, moisture analysers, bench mounted scales and floor platforms.

CLIENTS: Pharmaceutical, Chemical, Food, University and Hospital laboratories. A new focus to expand into will be production and industrial.

ROLE: Currently the business on the area is 95% laboratory (balances and centrifuges) and 5% scales. That 5% of scales represents about £20k and the candidate must be able and willing to move the business closer to £100k without sacrificing the lab business they currently have.

The job involves calling on existing and new customers to follow up sales leads, discover or create new opportunities, perform product demonstrations and generate quotations where appropriate. The expectation is for a minimum of 60 face to face customer visits per month (720/year) in addition to following up outstanding quotes and prospects, and general administration.

As our business is currently Laboratory orientated we need a candidate who has knowledge of the Laboratory market from either working in it or selling to it. Our objective is to maintain that Laboratory business and to expand into the Industrial sectors with our weighing equipment. As the industrial market involves more of a bespoke sale the ability and willingness to learn and understand process applications as well as produce and present technical information will be essential.

To meet the high standards we are looking for the candidate will need to prove that they have the drive and determination required to perform this difficult role. It's a broad portfolio and will require the candidate to deal with a huge range of customer types from Production Managers through to Research Scientists in areas as diverse as a Food Production Line through to a Hospital Pathology Laboratory.

Personality traits must include charisma, authority, presence, confidence, intelligence, humour but, above all, a real enthusiasm for sales. If you can't convince us that you have a passion and ability for selling you will not be successful.
Skills and Attributes will need to include a high work ethic, professional approach appropriate to a premium product, good communication and presentation skills (written and verbal), an ability to take in technical information and a willingness to self-learn. There will be a high level of responsibility given almost immediately, so the candidate must show they are able to accept and cope with this.
